Mortar Crack Repairs
Hairline cracks in brick mortar are a common thing, and fortunately repairing them is simple.
The product you need is More-Flexx, which is available at Rigney Building Supplies. The colour grey
matches the mortar colour in WG brickwork. Dry your repair is
practically invisible. When wet the repair will show until the brick
dries.

Visit to Silver Whisper
Just in case you missed the October 12 visit to the Silver Whisper in Montreal, here's a few photos (in a short video) to give you some idea what this wonder vessel is all about. The visit was arranged by Lise Beaulieu-Coghlan, who is a travel agent with Merit Odyssey Travel, and she lives here in Walnut Grove. Her husband, Gerry Coghlan was recently elected to the board.

Furnace Maintenance - Necessary or not?
Are regular inspections of your home furnace equipment necessary if there doesn't appear to be any problems?
The furnace maintenance technician who services your furnace is a licensed gas fitter. He's trained to look for more than just dust and dirt. Included in an inspection is a visual to ensure the heat exchanger is not cracked, that there is clean complete combustion, and just as importantly, exhaust. And, there's more - but without getting too technical, paying a small service fee once a year may help avoid more expensive repairs later.
Here's a link to information on what your technician will be looking for on a furnace inspection.
Your furnace in Walnut Grove was probably installed by GT Home Comfort. Their phone number is 613 634-8499. They do annual maintenance calls, and they can be reached for emergency service if your furnace fails to provide heat.
Irrespective of who you call, having an ongoing relationship with a heating contractor who recognizes you as a customer, and has knowledge of your equipment (and access to parts), provides peace of mind. If you travel - those who mind your home will know who to call if and when.

This is my Garden
Ron and Marsha Esford were nominated for Flowers in Bloom this summer based on what their front yard looks like. Here's what we find behind the garden gate.

August First Friday
Just a few images from WG First Friday in August BBQ. Beautiful weather had many sitting outside enjoying the setting - just what the volunteer builders envisioned. To Gerry and Lise who organized the evening special thanks, and to all that contributed salads and desserts - you make this work. Excellent job on the cooking Ron (with assistance and encouragement from Paul). A fun night for just $2... now that's value.

Summer Chicken Dinner Delight
You really couldn't do much better than this catered home cooked chicken dinner served up at the WG Community Centre last night, which came with everything including homemade pie. Try buying a night out on the town with a spread like this for just $15. Good job everyone.

2012 Walnut Grove Greek Night
The theme was all about 'Greek' and the room was filled to capacity. Mostly, it was all about community - friends and neighbours sharing social time. Thanks to Ron and Marsh Esford and their committee for pulling this together. When the video starts you can choose 'View on YouTube' for an enlarged version.

Raising Concrete
Many of us have sinking slabs under our front stairs. They can be a safety hazard, and then can cause water to run back towards your basement wall. Options include having the slab cutup and removed, topping the surface, and raising it. Here's what raising is all about. Checkout this video on YouTube.
