What's Popular and What's Not

The Walnut Grove community social committee has been active since day-one of the community. Recently, residents were asked what they enjoyed most about community organized activities. The survey found activities that involved exercise were popular (Yoga, general exercise, table tennis), and so were catered dinners, First Friday Happy Hours, and Pot Luck dinners.

A check back through WG blog posts confirms people in the community are still actively, regularly engaged, and enjoy their interaction with friends and neighbours made possible through the volunteer efforts of the various committees, and in particular the social committee.

The challenge going forward, as it has always been, is to keep the volunteers who are willing to organize and take responsibility for these activities. If you are reading this, and you are willing, the community needs your help.

It takes a team, and the team under the leadership of Ron and Marsha (center), put together a wonderful summer evening where the theme was everything to do with Greece. A full house as usual.

Panning For Gold in Alaska

Herb, Wendy and Diane somewhere in Alaska

Charlene, Wendy, Herb, Lise and Diane
Lise (second from right), lives in WG and is a travel agent for Merit Vacations. She regularly arranges trips, which include her neighbours from the Grove. It's a good way to go for many, and another reason for choosing Walnut Grove to live where you can travel with your friends. This is an Alaska trip, which includes the Yukon. Thanks, Herb for sending along these photos. There was no indication they found gold.

Italian Night May 2014

16 Volunteers put together a superb Italian evening in May, complete with Italian cuisine, a quiz to test our knowledge of Italy, and a bingo with, you guessed it - wine for the winners. A packed house, and lots of fun.

2014 Easter Ham Dinner

There was an Elvis sighting at the WG Ham Dinner on April 16. Close enough for those who attended the 50s Party (and dressed for it). The Community Centre was full, it was an outstanding dinner, followed by, you guessed it, 50s music and dance, a jive contest, and a trivia quiz. All in good fun.

The Walnut Grove Christmas Party was a sellout, just like other years. It was a wonderful evening of fellowship with friends and neighbours. Photos were provided by Frank Cuvelier.
